TAMPA | Tampa Bay celebrated the 2020 WAVE Awards on March 5 at the WAVE Award-winning Bradley’s on 7th.

The evening’s incredible eats and entertainment were provided by fellow WAVE Award winners. Orange Blossom Catering served delicious hors d’oeuvres, Bloom Envy Boutique provided beautiful arrangements and DJ Mike Sklarz hosted the festivities.

Central Florida newscaster Jorge Estevez announces departure from Orlando

ORLANDO | Award-winning Central Florida newscaster Jorge Estevez announced on Facebook Nov. 26 that he would be leaving his position at WFTV Channel 9 next month for Atlanta’s WSB-TV.

“Yes, I am leaving #Orlando,” Estevez wrote. “This time an opportunity presented itself that was beyond incredible. I am going to get to work with seasoned journalists who have dedicated years of their careers to providing people with the stories of their communities.”

‘Sunday School’ exhibit examines religion, social climate

ST. PETERSBURG | John Gascot—Tampa Bay WAVE Award winner for Favorite Local Artist—has announced “Sunday School,” a new exhibit opening April 5 that explores his views on religion.

“As a gay Latino man, I don’t have much positive to say about organized religion or the current administration,” Gascot says. “Creating these pieces has been a fun productive way to let out some of that steam.”

ST. PETERSBURG | Tampa Bay celebrated the 2019 WAVE Awards on March 8 at the newly-remodeled and WAVE Award winning Metro Inclusive Health.

All of the evening’s eats and entertainment were provided by fellow WAVE Award winners. The Stuffed Mushroom served fine hors d’oeuvres, Miguel Fuller of The Miguel & Holly Show hosted the festivities and DJ Duane Cook kept the crowd moving as Alyssa, Boys’ Entrance, Daphne Ferraro, Matthew McGee and Victoria Michaels wowed the crowd with their performances.

TAMPA BAY’S FAVORITE LOCAL PERFORMER: DRAG, WHO SHOULD BE ON THE COVER OF WATERMARK’S WAVES ISSUE

“Coming from New York, my drag is a little outrageous and a little more colorful than most of the drag queens in the Tampa Bay area,” Alexis De La Mer says. “Drag is an art form to me.”

The queen’s name stems from her favorite soap opera Dynasty, and in particular its character Alexis Carrington. “She was always dressed up in beautiful evening gowns and business suits with furs,” De La Mer says, “and dripping in jewelry. She always had a beautiful, hot young man by her side… I said, ‘I want to be just like her.’”
