Mother Monster is Gaga for Tampa

Anyone who saw Lady Gaga’s Halftime Show at the Super Bowl (and with more than 100 million people tuning in, it’s likely most of you did) saw the goddess that is Mother Monster put on one of the hottest shows to ever take the field.

Moments after her performance – filled with drones, Gaga’s biggest hits and a dive from the top of the stadium – the Poker Faced diva announced the dates for her next world tour, supporting her fifth studio album, Joanne.

Multi-GRAMMY® nominee and saxophonist extraordinaire Dave Koz returns to Ruth Eckerd Hall on Tuesday, November 29 at 7:30 pm with the must-see show of the holiday season.

“It’s no wonder that some fans think of him as Santa Koz…When the curtain lifted Koz and his back-up band launched into ‘Winter Wonderland,’ rocking the song up and making it sound like something the Beatles would have put on one of their fan club Christmas albums in the ’60s,” raved AXS.com. The Indianapolis Star dubbed him “Mr. Christmas” and the Tampa Bay Weekly said, “Koz’s high-energy shows have made him synonymous with the season.”

The 2016 Dave Koz and Friends Christmas tour will feature Dave along with three special guests. Koz will be joined by two tour “alumni” – the irrepressible Jonathan Butler, an “alumni” of the tour, has earned accolades in the R&B, contemporary jazz and gospel fields and recently released a new studio album entitled Free. GRAMMY®-nominated singer/songwriter Kenny Lattimore – hailed by The New York Times as a “modern soul man” – has released seven solo albums including his latest, Anatomy of a Love Song. Acclaimed vocalist Valerie Simpson co-wrote such classic hits such as Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, You’re All I Need to Get By, Reach Out and Touch Somebody’s Hand and Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing as half of the songwriting/performing/producing entity Ashford and Simpson. Together, the four musicians will put fresh spins on holiday classics as well as other selections that beautifully capture the spirit of the season.

Puscifer, who wrap up their second North American tour in support of Money $hot, have announced a show at Ruth Eckerd Hall on November 3 at 8 pm. Maynard James Keenan said of the Puscifer’s live offering: “This show is so much more than just a band regurgitating songs. This is a multi-media performance unlike anything you’ve ever witnessed. There are those who know, and there are those who will know soon enough.”

Puscifer kicked off the Money $hot – Round 1 tour the day after the 10-song album’s October release, playing the Monster Mash Festival on November 1 with the next six weeks spent trekking from coast-to-coast presenting sold-out performances that marry the concept of concert and theater. Money $hot landed at #1 on Billboard’s Independent Music chart, #2 on the Alternative Albums chart and #30 on the Top 200. The Kansas City Star, in a live review, said “not much emerges from the music world these days that feels genuinely unique, but Puscifer’s Money $hot tour qualifies. Each component of the show was first-rate: the sound mix, the videos, the musical performance and the theatrics. It all added up to a show that was as memorable as it was unique.”

Puscifer’s touring line-up is Keenan, guitar player Mat Mitchell, singer Carina Round, drummer Jeff Friedl, keyboard player/vocalist Mahsa Zargaran and the newest addition, bass player Paul Barker (Ministry, Lead Into Gold).

Alice Cooper pioneered a grandly theatrical brand of hard rock that was designed to shock. Drawing equally from horror movies, vaudeville, and garage rock, the group created a stage show that featured electric chairs, guillotines, fake blood and boa constrictors. He continues to tour regularly, performing shows worldwide with the dark and horror-themed theatrics that he’s best known for.

With his influence on rock & roll long since acknowledged, there is little that Alice Cooper hasn’t achieved in his remarkable career, including platinum albums, sold-out tours and any number of honors and career achievement awards. Check out Alice’s site here: alicecooper.com

Overheard in Tampa Bay: Go-Go’s by the Bay-Bay

The Go-Go’s go bye-bye
After 38 years of rocking out together the Go-Go’s – Belinda Carlisle, Jane Wiedlin, Charlotte Caffey and Gina Schock– have announced a farewell tour. That’s right; these beauties are stopping the beat to head on a permanent vacation without any more stops on the talk show circuit. God bless the Go-Go’s. Don’t you worry fans of the Go-Go’s who live by the Bay-Bay, cause these rocking ladies are kicking there farewell tour off right here in the Tampa Bay area. The only all-female band to top the charts who wrote their own songs and played their own instruments attempted to do a farewell tour back in 2010 but that tour was cancelled when Wiedlin injured her knee, but this time around they are going through with it. So tease up that hair and shake out those leg warmers, because the ‘80s are heading to the Capitol Theatre in August.

The Unbreakbale Cesar Rodriguez
Cesar Rodriguez was well known throughout Tampa and Ybor City. He owned several businesses in the area throughout the 1970s and 1980s, including well known bars frequented by the LGBT community including Rene’s and KiKiKi. He was also well known in the area for having survived several attempts on his life from the mob. Rodriguez passed away March 12 at the age of 85, a long successful life lived with a past that sounds more like the plot of a Godfather movie. Now it’s no secret that the clubs and bars of Ybor City were owned and run by the mob. According to the Tampa Tribune, when Rodriguez tried to expand his business in the Ybor area, a rival mob strapped a bomb to his car attempting to get him out of the way. But lucky for Rodriguez, his daughter’s boyfriend got into the car instead. The teenager received only minor injuries. A few weeks later, Rene’s was set on fire and was ruled arson by local officials. A couple of months after that, two gentlemen tried gunning Rodriguez down with a shotgun, but when the gun wouldn’t fire Rodriguez, the gun-toting thugs had a car chase through the streets of Tampa. Who knew that the streets of Tampa back in the day were directed by Martin Scorsese? Rest peaceful Mr. Rodriguez; your streets are in good hands.

“Mark is wonderful and will go along with all the crazy schemes and everything I come up with – and he’s always there beside me, loving me and supporting me no matter how crazy my little mind can go,” Jason says.

When Jason Newkirk, a writer and office manager for a production company, first met Mark Badley, a pharmacy buyer, he was at a loss for words, which isn’t like Jason, being a person who always has something to say.
