‘The Cher Show,’ ‘The Prom’ among 2020-21 Broadway season at Dr. Phillips Center

ORLANDO | After teasing the season with “Hamilton” and “Wicked,” the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts announced the rest of the shows for its 2020-21 FAIRWINDS Broadway season Feb. 18.

The nine shows coming for the new season boast an impressive 88 Tony Award nominations and 44 wins, including four Best Musical winners. The season features “To Kill A Mockingbird,” “Tootsie,” “Hadestown,” “The Band’s Visit,” “The Prom,” “Wicked,” “CATS,” “Hamilton” and “The Cher Show.”

TAMPA | The Straz Center for the Performing Arts announced its 2020-2021 Broadway season Feb. 7, detailing  a wide array of new and returning fan favorite productions.

“We have a tremendous season ahead, truly a remarkable line-up of fantastic shows,” Straz Center President and CEO Judy Lisi said in a statement. “When we say the best of Broadway, we mean it.”

‘The Prom’ wraps up Broadway run with real-life same-sex wedding

“The Prom” celebrated one of its final shows on Broadway with an onstage, same-sex wedding.

Armelle Kay Harper, the script coordinator for the musical, and actress Jody Kay Smith were married during the show’s curtain call at the Longacre Theatre on Aug. 3. “The Prom” co-book writer Bob Martin officiated the nuptials.

Meryl Streep has been tapped to star in Ryan Murphy’s adaptation of the Tony-nominated musical “The Prom” for Netflix.

Deadline reports that Streep will be joined by other big names such as Ariana Grande, Nicole Kidman, James Corden, Awkwafina, Keegan-Michael Key and Andrew Rannells.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade airs historic same-sex kiss

The 92nd annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was not only the coldest parade on record but also aired a groundbreaking LGBT moment on live television.

During the parade, the cast of the Broadway musical “The Prom” gave a performance which included a same-sex kiss between actresses Isabelle McCalla and Caitlin Kinnumen. The historic moment marks the first time a same-sex kiss has aired during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
