Nashville mayor decries anti-gay statement named after city

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Nashville Mayor Megan Barry is denouncing a statement against same-sex marriage that evangelical leaders have named after the city.

On Tuesday, Barry tweeted that the “Nashville Statement” is poorly named and does not represent the inclusive values of the city and people of Nashville.

Same-sex marriage opponents urge Supreme Court to go slow

WASHINGTON (AP) – Same-sex marriage opponents acknowledge they face a tough task in trying to persuade the Supreme Court to allow states to limit marriage to a man and a woman.

But they are urging the court to resist embracing what they see as a radical change in society’s view of what constitutes a marriage, especially without more information about how same-sex marriage affects children who are raised by two fathers or two mothers.

Southern Baptist group bars military chaplains from performing same sex weddings

The Southern Baptist Convention, which provides the largest share of active-duty military chaplains, has barred members from taking part in weddings, counseling sessions and couples retreats for same-sex couples.

The North American Mission Board, an arm of the Nashville, Tenn.-based SBC, also prohibits chaplains from participating in any services that would appear to endorse or accept same-sex unions.
