ST. PETERSBURG | Tropicana Field, home of the Tampa Bay Rays, has been taken over by the holiday spirit with Enchant Christmas.

Packed with 90,000 square feet of holiday cheer, this event features more than two million holiday lights within “The Great Search” maze, its anchor attraction. As the story goes, a mischievous elf has accidently released Santa’s reindeer inside and it’s up to you to find them all.

PHOTOS: Parliament House’s courtyard gets lit for the holiday season

ORLANDO | Parliament House Orlando rang in the season with holiday cheer during its annual Light Up the Courtyard festivities Dec. 7.

After a lively dance number from “The Nightmare Before Christmas” stars Jack Skellington and Sally, Parliament House Entertainment Director Ms. Darcel Stevens called for all the trees in the courtyard to be lit up. Then attendees watched as Santa Claus, Mitzvah Moose, Krampus and other various holiday characters paraded down the courtyard with local LGBTQ organizations including the Central Florida Sounds of Freedom Band and Color Guard, Bliss Cares and the Orlando Youth Alliance.

New Zealand shopping center displays ‘gender-busting’ Santa

A shopping center in Auckland, New Zealand put their own twist on Santa Claus with a “gender-busting” statue.

Ponsonby Central introduced “Santa Poppins,” Santa dressed as Mary Poppins, for the holiday season. Santa dons a red robe and fishnet stockings and is holding Poppins’ magical carpet bag and umbrella.

Watermark’s Most Remarkable People 2017: Nicolas Cardello, Tampa Bay photographer and bay-area Santa Claus

In 2017, Nick Cardello and his husband, Kurt, became the international faces of same-sex relationships when they recreated a photo of themselves kissing at the March on Washington. That photo, which positioned the couple in the exact same pose as 24 years earlier, went viral and got worldwide media coverage. But for the LGBTQ community of Tampa Bay, Nick was already synonymous with our community.

Several years ago, Nick became a photographer for Watermark. Soon he was appearing at LGBTQ events on both sides of the bay with his trusty camera in hand. He shot numerous covers for the newsmagazine and soon became the official photographer for other LGBTQ organizations. The Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival noticed Nick’s skills as did ASAP (which merged into EPIC). Nick also continues to shoot for Tampa’s Creative Loafing.

Santa is gay and in an interracial relationship in new picture book

Santa Claus will be gay and black in a new children’s book being released this fall.

Harper Design is publishing “Santa”s Husband” by Daniel Kibblesmith, a story about Santa Claus and his same-sex partner who fills in for him at malls, Time reports. The book is written in a similar parody to “Go the F**k to Sleep.” Kibbelsmith is also a staff writer for “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and co-author of “How to Win at Everything.”

A new documentary called “I Am Santa Claus” gives a peak into the lives of five Santa impersonators when it’s not the “most wonderful time of the year”—and one of the Santas is gay.

Jim Stevenson, in his 70s, is a Santa impersonator from Texas. Beard, who says he loves being Santa because he doesn’t have kids and it allows him the chance to give back. The documentary features shots of Stevenson spending time with his boyfriend and the couple sharing a kiss.

Santa Speedo Run returns to Ybor Dec. 14

Tampa – Santa Claus is coming to town. And so is Mrs. Claus—in a bra.

The 2014 Santa Speedo Run will return on Dec. 14 to Centennial Park in Ybor City, and this year it will be host to a brand new co-event dubbed “Mrs. Claus in Bras.”
