UCF Pride Coalition to be dismantled, restructured

Orlando – The UCF Student Body Senate voted 34-1-0 at its Feb. 27 meeting to terminate Pride Coalition as a Student Government Association (SGA) agency. The LGBT programming agency will be restructured as a committee under the Multicultural Student Center (MSC).

The details of the reorganization are still being worked out, but it is likely that a new multicultural affairs department will also be created within UCF’s Student Development & Enrollment Services (SDES) division to oversee MSC and the proposed Pride Coalition committee.

UCF Pride Coalition’s fate may be decided Feb. 27

Orlando- The UCF Student Body Senate plans to decide the fate of Pride Coalition at its Feb. 27 meeting. Depending on the outcome of the Senate’s vote, the LGBT programming arm of UCF’s Student Government Association (SGA) may no longer exist come July.

SGA’s Agency and Department Strategic Planning Board (ADSPB) passed an 8-1-0 motion on Feb. 13 that allows a grievance to terminate Pride Coalition to move forward to the Senate floor for a vote.

UCF SGA Budget Committee moves to shut down Pride Coalition

Orlando- After motioning to zero-fund Pride Coalition at the Activity & Service Fee budget hearing on Dec. 16, the University of Central Florida (UCF) Student Government Association (SGA) leaders are now proposing to terminate the LGBTQ programming agency altogether.

SGA leaders filed a grievance against Pride Coalition on the first day of classes, Jan. 6, stating that they intended to move forward with disbanding the organization.

UCF Budget Committee votes to defund Pride Coalition

Orlando The UCF Activity & Service Fee (A&SF) Budget Committee voted Dec. 16 to zero fund the University’s LGBTQ programming agency Pride Coalition. If the A&SF budget is approved as is, the Student Government Association (SGA)-affiliated agency will have no money to operate during the 2014-2015 academic school year.

SGA Vice-President Jacob Kahn, who is openly gay, proposed the motion to defund all lines of Pride Coalition’s budget for the next fiscal year. He said that he didn’t think the SGA agency was sustainable and that the University should not be creating a culture on campus of valuing the needs of one minority group over all others.

UCF Student Senate to decide fate of Pride Coalition

UCF’s OUTreach Advocacy Board of LGBTQ Services is applying to become an SGA agency called the Pride Coalition and they go before the Student Senate for a final time Nov. 29.

According to OUTreach, SGA agency status would provide the resources necessary to reach and support many more LGBTQ+ students on UCF’s campus.
