A homeless transgender woman was brutally murdered in Puerto Rico early Monday.

Pedro Julio Serrano, founder of Puerto Rico Para Tod@s, a Puerto Rican LGBTQ advocacy groups, confirmed media reports that said the victim, who was known as Alexa, was killed in a park in Toa Baja, a municipality that is about 15 miles west of San Juan.

Man charged with murder of N Ireland journalist Lyra McKee

LONDON (AP) | Police in Northern Ireland charged a 52-year-old man on Wednesday with murdering Lyra McKee, a journalist shot dead during a riot involving Irish Republican Army dissidents last year.

The killing of McKee caused widespread shock in a region still scarred by decades of violence known as the Troubles, in which more than 3,500 people died.

CIUDAD DELGADO, El Salvador | A transgender woman was found dead in El Salvador on Jan. 17.

The body of Briyit Michelle Alas, 22, was found in the Santa Margarita 2 neighborhood of Ciudad Delgado. She was not immediately identified because authorities did not find her ID documents at the scene; but she had been shot three times in her torso, once behind her ear and once in her shoulder. Authorities said Alas was killed at least 10 hours before they found her body.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) | Police in North Carolina have launched a homicide investigation after the body of a transgender woman was found in the debris of a house fire.

The Charlotte Observer reports Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say they’re trying to determine if someone intentionally set the fire.

A transgender woman was killed in Fairmount Heights, a suburb of Washington, D.C., on June 13.

Major Brian Reilly of the Prince George’s County Police Department told reporters during a press briefing on June 14 that 911 received a call “for a check on the welfare” on the 600 block of 59th Avenue near Eastern Avenue just before midnight.

For a few transgender Americans, this has been a year of glamour and fame. For many others, 2015 has been fraught with danger, violence and mourning.

While Caitlyn Jenner made the cover of Vanity Fair and Laverne Cox prospered as a popular actress, other transgender women have become homicide victims at an alarming rate. By the count of the National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs, there have been 22 killings so far this year of transgender or gender-nonconforming people – including 19 black or Latina transgender women.

Mother charged with first-degree murder of her daughter

Orlando – An Orlando woman is charged with the first degree murder of her 3-year-old daughter.

Maryanne Louise Schwartz, 22, was arrested by deputies while she was in the car of her live-in partner, Vanessa Morales. Morales also was arrested for driving with a suspended license and traffic charges.
