‘The Cher Show,’ ‘The Prom’ among 2020-21 Broadway season at Dr. Phillips Center

ORLANDO | After teasing the season with “Hamilton” and “Wicked,” the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts announced the rest of the shows for its 2020-21 FAIRWINDS Broadway season Feb. 18.

The nine shows coming for the new season boast an impressive 88 Tony Award nominations and 44 wins, including four Best Musical winners. The season features “To Kill A Mockingbird,” “Tootsie,” “Hadestown,” “The Band’s Visit,” “The Prom,” “Wicked,” “CATS,” “Hamilton” and “The Cher Show.”

TAMPA | The Straz Center for the Performing Arts announced its 2020-2021 Broadway season Feb. 7, detailing  a wide array of new and returning fan favorite productions.

“We have a tremendous season ahead, truly a remarkable line-up of fantastic shows,” Straz Center President and CEO Judy Lisi said in a statement. “When we say the best of Broadway, we mean it.”

Straz Center announces ‘Hamilton’ ticket lottery for Tampa run

TAMPA | Producer Jeffrey Seller and the Straz Center for the Performing Arts announced Jan. 31 that a digital lottery for “Hamilton” tickets will begin in conjunction with the popular production’s opening night in Tampa Feb. 12.

The musical details the story of America’s Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant from the West Indies who became George Washington’s right-hand man during the Revolutionary War. It features a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B and Broadway by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Cher wanted Kennedy Center honor during Obama years

Cher will be a recipient of the 41st annual Kennedy Center Honors but the pop icon wanted to receive the honor sooner.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Cher says she “wanted to get it so badly” during Obama’s years in office.

The 41st annual Kennedy Center Honors announced its class of 2018 which will include actress and singer Cher.

Composer and pianist Philip Glass, country singer Reba McEntyre and composer and jazz saxophonist Wayne Shorter will also be honored.

ORLANDO | The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts announced their 2018/19 FAIRWINDS Broadway series in a press release March 9.

The season will be headlined by Lin-Manuel Miranda’s 2015 Tony Award-winning smash hit Hamilton. Hamilton took Broadway by storm nearly three years ago going on to receive a record-setting 16 Tony nominations, and winning 11 of them including Best Musical.

‘Hamilton’ member gives Pence earful, Trump: “Apologize!”
