Iconic Pride flag flies from Orange County Admin building

Orange County mayor Teresa Jacobs ordered Section 93 of the Sea-to-Sea Rainbow Flag to be displayed at the Orange County Administration building in Orlando starting June 16.

“When we hosted a ceremony in our office [June 15] trying to send a message to Westboro Baptist Church that you need not come here, we met the gentleman in charge of the [Sea-to-Sea Rainbow Flag] named Mark Eppenhock from Love is Love is Love Key West,” Jacobs says. “He came up to us after to talk about the fact that he wanted to fly the flag at the Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center because they already have their colors up in lights.”

Salt Lake City (AP) – A proposal to name a street after pioneering gay leader Harvey Milk is the latest display of Salt Lake City standing out as a blue dot in a deep-red state where the prevailing Mormon faith still has a fraught relationship with the LGBT community.

Utah’s capital city recently elected its first openly gay mayor and its second sitting gay councilman, creating an increasingly friendly atmosphere for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in the home of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

HRO discussions truck along in divided Jacksonville

About 750 people packed a gymnasium at Edward Waters College for the second of three “Community Conversations” on a proposed human rights ordinance for the city of Jacksonville.

Attendees went through heightened security, with a metal detector and bag search, presumably because there was a bomb threat after the first meeting Nov. 17.
