“We first met through a mutual friend that was living with me in Park Central,” Keith Sadler shares about first meeting his new wife, Kathleen Harper. “He had brought Kathleen over to the condo but he had to leave, so we proceeded to hang out, eat pork tenderloins, crush beers and binge “South Park.” We didn’t hang out again after that, but remained Facebook friends for the next five years.”

“After becoming friends on Facebook, sharing music links and randomly seeing each other out places, we finally had an actual date three years ago,” Kathleen says. “It was thanks to Tinder that we reconnected.”

From the carnival-like atmosphere of Sunday T-Dance bacchanalia and deep into the fuzzy navels back in the Bear Den, the Parliament house has been an excursion, a home, a habit, a place to find merriment day and night for more than four decades, and, despite a year of wildly varying expectations, it isn’t going anywhere. Whether functioning as a resort for visiting LGBT folks or as a venue for huge productions aimed at the local glee club, the compound rarely disappoints. Part of the reason for that, co-owner Susan Unger says, is that there aren’t any lines in the sand, not even in that sand which sits out back on Rock Lake.

“I think it’s the inclusiveness of everybody,” she says. “Doesn’t matter if you’re gay, straight, bi or trans, you’re welcome here.”

Wedding Bells at Watermark: Scott Guira and John Partain

“I love Scott’s passion for life. With Scott, failure is never an option,” John says.“He does everything 110 percent. He gives himself – all of himself – to everything he does, and that’s one thing I absolutely love about him.”

John Partain, who is the Florida marketing manager for Verizon Wireless, met Scott Guira, who is a Publix Super Markets manager, in 2004. They were young and ambitious, and very attracted to each other from the start.
