Here’s the track list:
Truly, Madly, Deeply by Savage Garden, selected by sales representative Sam Rennels because she said, “Special day, special song, 12-31-97.” Very mysterious!
Bluebird by Paul McCartney, selected by publisher Tom Dyer, because it’s “just a special song, shared with a special someone from a time when I was very much in love. Short and very sweet… like the relationship.”
Language of the Heart by David Wilcox, selected by proofreader Ed Blaisdell. “A beautiful song about how the unspoken language of love can be very different from what is actually said in a relationship.”
Wake Up by Coheed & Cambria, selected by art director Jake Stevens. “This is a song that Claudio Sanchez (singer/guitarist) wrote to his then girlfriend and the longing he felt after leaving her to go on an extended tour. He then modified some lyrics to fit into the narrative of their sci-fi/space opera story concept for that particular album. I have a particular fondness for this song mostly because it came out shortly after I came out of the closet and was making out to a lot of dudes in my first apartment to it.”
An Easier Affair by George Michael, selected by writer Kirk Hartlage. “When you’re gay and of a certain age, “coming out” isn’t just a one-time event. It’s a daily journey of gaining self-acceptance, or self-love, if you will. And when you’re single, as I happen to be these days, it’s also important to make sure you’re every bit the catch that your well-meaning friends and family constantly tell you that you are. This song that really speaks to me about overcoming that adversity from within.”
Kiss Me by Sixpence None The Richer selected by creative assistant Andres Duputel. “It’s sweet and affectionate, what I always imagine love is like at its most intimate. The harmonica solo gives me chills.”
Scream and Shout by Will.i.am and Britney Spears, selected by sales representative Bill Jeffries, “because I am back with my man and that song describes us. TMI.” Very naughty, Bill!
Bad by U2, selected by writer David Moran. “Eerie and tragic but also raw, heartfelt, and beautiful. It is one of my favorite ‘love’ songs because I think it honors the struggles we all face in life to strike a balance in terms of what we desire or think we need in order to feel fulfilled and what is actually helpful or harmful to our well-being.”
The Rose by Bette Midler, selected by CFO Rick Claggett. “It perfectly describes the good and bad that is love and is sung perfectly by the Divine Ms M.”
You Mean More To Me by Lionel Richie, selected by sales manager Mark Cady. “Because there are truly no words that could ever describe the joy and love that Carlos and I share.”
Forever My Love by The Association, selected by director of online media Jamie Hyman. “Look, I know it’s almost unbearably sappy but it is also damn romantic and a great slowdance song.”
