Lady Fingers: Baby Talk

I’ve really never understood the concept of the “biological clock,” nor have I tried. At the ripe age of 28 (by the way, I can still say that as of this writing) I am very aware that a good portion of my peers have popped-out at least one, if not four children. While that has not personally inspired me to start breeding, it has been a pretty amazing experience to watch my friends become incredible mothers. It seems like just yesterday I was the one projectile-vomiting on them, and now it’s the fruit of their loins that is doing the yacking.

I don’t necessarily feel any pressure to have children, which I find interesting considering that like most women for the last two centuries, I have been and will continue to be asked if/when I’ll have children. I still get asked in some shape or form, but not as frequently and I think I know why.

Everyone remembers when they had “the talk,” but, as many of you know, that is only part of your sexual education. We all know, “First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the baby in the baby carriage,”  but there is so much more to it than that. SEX ED helps to fill in the holes (pun intended) and tells the remarkably normal story of a midwestern girl coming into her own while using Disney parody songs to help her along the way. From her first kiss to her first fraternity party, Ipema takes you through her sexual education where she found answers in the most unexpected places. Kerry Ipema enlists the help of Fringe God TJ Dawe to dramaturge her production, the two just finished an 11 week tour of the US with One Woman Sex and the City, a show they co-wrote – Dawe directed and Ipema starred. It was Dawe who introduced Ipema to the Fringe circuit and she is thrilled to come Orlando, to debut her new show, SEX ED! For Mature audiences.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Two Tennessee lawmakers want to do away with a 40-year-old state law granting legitimacy to children conceived through artificial insemination. Critics say the bill is aimed at LGBT couples and their children.

The bill would remove a single sentence applying to child custody when artificial insemination is involved, one that’s been interpreted to make no distinction between same-sex and heterosexual couples.

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) – A federal lawsuit brought by a New Jersey lesbian couple who want to have a baby may mean insurance coverage for women who currently don’t meet the state’s definition of infertile.

Erin Krupa was denied insurance coverage for infertility treatments essentially because she failed to show she couldn’t get pregnant by having sex with a man. New Jersey law for insurance purposes defines infertility as the result of failure to conceive after a certain period of unprotected sex.
