Man accused of attacking transgender woman in South Carolina

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) | A man is accused of brutally attacking a transgender woman and her sister as the two women left a bar and restaurant district in South Carolina.

The Post and Courier reports 30-year-old Christopher Lamar Price was arrested Tuesday and charged with second-degree assault and battery. Authorities have classified the attack as bias-motivated. Charleston police say Price used slurs about the woman’s gender identity before punching her early one morning last month.

Philadelphia Police Lt. John Walker says the suspects fired at a couple walking July 6 from a silver Infiniti. The woman was hit before the car drove away.

Pulse owners establish non-profit, to make nightclub location a permanent memorial

UPDATE: Several media outlets have reported that the location of Pulse Orlando will be re-opened as a permanent memorial for the 49 victims of the Pulse shooting.

Watermark reached out to Pulse Orlando and was provided the following statement:

OOPS! Looks like we got the media’s pulse racing with an inadvertent Instagram posting that incorrectly stated the Pulse Nightclub was reopening as a memorial. As reported last week, the club remains closed for business but Ms. Poma’s desire is that someday a memorial be created at the site. The OnePulseFoundation was established to raise funds for victims of the June 12 tragedy as well as for a memorial. No monies have been collected at this time.

KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) – When Angeline Jackson and a friend were ambushed at gunpoint and sexually assaulted on a wooded trail outside the Jamaican capital, police initially seemed less concerned about the attack than the fact she is a lesbian.

Former WNBA star Chamique Holdsclaw is in custody after being accused of shooting into a woman’s car after using a bat to break its windows.

Atlanta police said the incident happened Tuesday, Nov. 13 after the Olympic gold medalist followed 29-year-old Jennifer Lacy to her car. Lacy plays for the Tulsa Shock.

Lacy, 29, who described herself as Holdsclaw’s former girlfriend, told police she was working out at a church on Ponce de Leon Avenue on Nov. 13 when Holdsclaw approached her and said she wanted to put some items in Lacy’s car.

Former basketball star says hate crime was real

A former University of Nebraska women’s basketball star accused of faking a hate-crime attack against her is standing by her story in letters to news organizations and in a new online video.

In the video and letters - including one to the Lincoln Journal Star – 34-year-old Charlie Rogers says she did not make up the attack. Rogers says that in July, three masked men broke into her home and carved anti-gay words on her arms and abdomen, as well as making other cuts on her body.
