Sanders wins NH primary, moderates Buttigieg and Klobuchar take 2nd and 3rd spots

The big winner in the New Hampshire primary Feb. 11 was Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who pulled in a plurality of the votes in the Democratic primary with Pete Buttigieg close behind with less than 2% separating them, but it was Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) pulling off a surprising third place finish that had everyone talking.

With 97% of precincts reporting, Sanders claimed 25.7%; Buttigieg was narrowly behind him with 24.4% of the vote, while Klobuchar won 19.8%.

At Andrew Yang rally, economic message strikes chord with gay voter

DES MOINES, Iowa — When Andrew Yang was making his pitch in final event before the Iowa caucuses on the need for an outsider’s voice to shake up Washington, Michael Powers was there fully embracing the message.

Powers, a 35-year-old gay Yang supporter from St. Louis, Mo., who attended the rally Feb. 1 at the Des Moines Marriott with his male spouse, told the Washington Blade LGBTQ people are facing economic problems — the main focus of Yang’s campaign — at a magnified level.

Buttigieg delivers forceful performance on debate stage

South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg delivered a forceful performance during the Democratic debate Tuesday night, demonstrating a rare knack for both rising above the fray and engaging in it.

The contradictory—but effective—approach from the gay candidate during the debate in Westerville, Ohio, was seen in particular toward the end when Joseph Biden and Elizabeth Warren were quarreling.
