Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie is the first LGBT character in a Marvel film

Valkyrie is the Marvel film universe’s first LGBT character.

Tessa Thompson tweeted to clarify that her character is bisexual in “Thor: Ragnarok” just like in the “Fearless Defenders” comic book series.

The actress made the comment after some Marvel fans were upset with Valkyrie’s conservative costume. One person called her a “typical sexless marvel tomboy” which caused another fan to address Valkyrie’s sexuality.

“Valkyrie in the comics is a big ole lesbian so I doubt she would give your opinion any thought,” another fan fired back.

Thompson clarified that she chose to portray Valkyrie as bisexual in the film as well.

“She’s bi. And yes, she cares very little about what men think of her. What a joy to play,” Thompson tweets.

“YES! Val is Bi in the comics & I was faithful to that in her depiction. But her sexuality isn’t explicitly addressed in Thor: Ragnarok,” Thompson continued.

However, Valkyrie is too busy fighting villains to have a love interest in this film.

“Thor: Ragnarok” hits theaters on Thursday, Nov. 2.
