Spurred by election results, LGBT support campaign launched

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Pride Center is launching a campaign to show support for the state’s LGBT community in wake of the presidential election.

The organization said in a news release Monday that it will distribute 25,000 wristbands as part of a campaign called, “We see you and we love you.” The wristbands will include how to help people struggling with their identity.

The group says many gays, lesbians and transgender people are frightened after Republican Donald Trump won the election.

The campaign is also tied to the one-year anniversary of the Mormon church announcing that it would ban baptisms for children living with parents in same-sex relationships.

The Pride Center is hoping people of all races, religions and ethnicities wear the wristbands, but especially Mormons, as a show of support for the LGBT community.
