68th Annual Emmy Nominations announced, 10 nominations for “Transparent”

The 68th Primetime Emmy Award nominations were announced the morning of July 14, with Amazon Prime’s show Transparent collecting 10, including “Outstanding Comedy Series” and “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.”

Transparent focuses on Maura Pfefferman’s (played by Jeffery Tambor) journey as an older transgender woman and her relationship with her family and with herself. The series won five Emmy Awards in 2015 out of the 11 it was nominated for.

RuPaul’s Drag Race received two nominations this year, the first year it has ever been featured on the Emmys. RuPaul is nominated for “Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program,” and the show is nominated for “outstanding Costumes for a Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Program.”

Other nominations of note are Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany for “Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series,” in which she plays six different lead characters, one of whom is a lesbian biologist, Audra McDonald for “Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie” the HBO live recording of a performance of the former Broadway show Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill.

The shows with the most nominations are Game of Thrones with 23, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story with 22 and Fargo with 18.

The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards airs on ABC September 18.
