Round-up: Pulse fundraising events, cancellations

A number of organizations and individuals are putting together fundraising events and vigils to benefit those affected by the Pulse shootings, be they injured victims, family members of the deceased or Pulse employees, all of which will need significant financial support in the coming months.

Here’s a rundown of those scheduled events: 

ORLANDO EVENTS

Orlando United Hispanic Community Vigil
Outside the Dr. Phillips Center, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer will join with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando and the rest of the Hispanic community in a vigil to remember those lost at Pulse. The vigil will start at 6 p.m. on June 24.

Beautiful Together, an artistic journey towards hope
In the Walt Disney Theater at the Dr. Phillips Center on June 28, performances from a community choir including members of the Orlando Gay Chorus will raise money for the OneOrlando fund. Tickets start at $15.

Anderson Cooper & Andy Cohen (June 30)
The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts will host Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen’s show AC2  on June 30 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, June 21 at 10 a.m. Event is on June 30 at 8:00 p.m. The show will benefit the OneOrlando Fund created by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. Tickets start at $55.

UCF Orlando Strong 5K
The UCF Greek Life and Student Body will host a 5K event that will bring the Orlando community together to support and raise money for the families of the deceased Pulse victims. The event will is still to be determined, but will take place on either July 2 or 3 from 5- 9 p.m. A guest speaker will conclude the event with a memorial speech for the fallen and their families. It is $10 for regular registration for the event and $15 for registration with the inclusion of an OrlandoStrong T-Shirt.

United Forever-A Fundraiser (July 3)
On July 3, Hamburger Mary’s, Orlando Weekly and COWP will co-sponsor a fundraising event at Orchid Garden & Cheyenne Saloon from 3-6 p.m. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door, which includes an open bar and entertainment. Half the money raised will benefit the OneOrlando fund, the other half will benefit a fund for the Pulse employees.

Paws for Pulse Fundraiser for Victims and Families of Orlando
Fluffy Cuts will be putting together a dog wash fundraiser to donate money to the Pulse Victims GoFundMe account. Dog washes will be given on a first come first serve basis between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on July 3. Donations will be accepted at the shop and the prices for services are as follows:

  • Small dogs – $10
  • Medium dogs – $15
  • Large dogs – $20

TAMPA BAY EVENTS

Humor to Help with Jim Florentine
The Side Splitters comedy club in Tampa will host a benefit comedy show and silent auction on June 26. The cocktail hour and silent auction start at 5 p.m., showtime is at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 and the proceeds will benefit the Pulse victims. Call (813) 960-1197 for more information.

VIGILS

Memorial mass at St. Dorothy Catholic Community
St. Dorothy will host a mass in memory of the victims at 11 a.m. on June 26. Call (813) 361-7109 for more information.

CANCELLATIONS
Watermark’s Third Thursday event, sponsored by the Hammered Lamb, has been cancelled. The gathering was to take place on June 16 at 6 p.m.

Welcome to the Jungle Party, an event to benefit The GLBT Center of Central Florida, has been cancelled. June 17 was the set date for the event.

Welcome to the JUNGLE: AFTER-PARTY at Savoy nightclub has been indefinitely postponed. The event was originally scheduled June 17 at 1 p.m.

Eric Rollins’ fundraiser for Bob Poe, which was supposed to be held June 22 at 6 p.m., has been cancelled out of respect for the Pulse shooting.

Nene Leakes has cancelled her appearance at the Parliament House for the 41st anniversary – July 24 was the scheduled date for the event.
