The gay gloves are off: Log Cabin Republicans endorse Paul Paulson for Orlando Mayor

(Editor’s note: This post has been edited to reflect late info and to remove the image of someone who did not want to be associated with it.)

We don’t really want to come off negative on the Log Cabin Republicans (in fact, we publish an LCR viewpoint on occasion), but the fact that mayoral candidate Paul Paulson, he of the Doug Guetzloe money train and all that that legally implies, is openly touting his Republican leanings in a nonpartisan race is cause for some alarm.

In fact, as the Orlando Sentinel reports, he’s not even shying away from it, nor is the party. To be fair, Republicans are claiming that incumbent Mayor Buddy Dyer is riding the Democratic money train for his campaign and are simultaneously using either “fat” Dyer or “mugshot” Dyer pics to do so. All in good fun, right? Well, not really. We watched the Paulson/Dyer/other person editorial board debate via the Sentinel’s website, and find it hard to support some of the opinions proffered by our well-funded longshot (as of yesterday, Paulson was down at least 20 points in polling, though that’s not a bad showing three weeks before an election). Also, he can come off as a stuffy uncle, one who doesn’t like pencils. Still, it’s fair game to go after Dyer on some of his financial choices; it just helps if you don’t act like a brat while doing so (or, potentially, challenge election laws). Regardless, you should draw your own conclusions and vote Nov. 3.
