North Port to vote on Human Rights Ordinance

The North Port City Commission will vote on a city wide Human Rights Ordinance Oct. 13.

The HRO would ban discrimination against employment, housing and public accommodations based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

More than 56 percent of Floridians live in municipalities with nondiscrimination protections for the LGBT community, according to Equality Florida.

The hearing will be at North Port City Hall at 1 p.m. The commission will hear public comment from community members before voting.
