Pensacola’s City Council is pressing pause on an anti-discrimination ordinance.

The proposal would have prohibited discrimination in work and public accommodations based on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, military status and other categories, as well as update existing protections against housing discrimination.

A big group turned up in council chambers wearing red in support of the ordinance and speakers debated the issue for an hour. According to The Pulse, a Gulf Coast news source, a dozen speakers asked the council to move the ordinance forward but they deferred it to a November workshop to address concerns that the ordinance and its effects need a closer look.
