First-ever Pride Day coming to NY State Fair

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) – The New York State Fair is getting its first-ever pride day.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says a celebration of New York’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community will take place on Friday, August 28th to formalize what has been an informal gathering at the fair by members of the LGBT community.

Pride Day at the Fair will begin with the raising of the Rainbow Flag at the Main Gate of the Fairgrounds. It will be followed by a day-long information fair linking fairgoers to various organizations.

The day will conclude with a free concert by Grammy-Award-winning singer Melissa Etheridge, who has campaigned for LGBT equality since coming out in 1993.

The state fair runs from Aug. 27th to Sept. 7th.
