Barry Miller Law offers free deed service for same-sex couples during Pride month

The Supreme Court is expected to make a decision on same-sex marriage by the end of June, which just happens to be Pride month.

In celebration of the expected Court ruling for same-sex marriage and with the state of Florida legalizing it in January, the Orlando law offices of Barry Miller are offering a free service for same-sex couples during Pride month.

“As a result of recent changes in Florida legalizing same-sex marriages, LGBT couples now have the opportunity vest title in their property as married couples,” said Miller in a press release. “Adding a spouse to the title of real property can help couples save thousands of dollars and avoid costly probate proceedings.”

Throughout the entire month of June, Miller will offer free deed preparation to any LGBT couple that would like to add a spouse to the title to their home or take title as a married couple.

“Any recently married couple who would like to have a spouse share in the responsibilities and pleasures of home ownership need only contact us for a free consultation and deed preparation,” Miller said. “The welcoming staff at Barry Miller Law will also be glad to notarize and witness the deed signing at no charge.”

Unlike their straight counterparts, same-sex couples need to seek out a qualified legal specialist as the process would not be the same even though same-sex marriage is legal.

“Same sex couples cannot vest title in the same manner as other married couples. For example, additional language must be added so as to avoid the probate of real property,” said Miller.

Barry Miller Law also offers will preparation, health care directives, powers of attorney, living wills and personal property memoranda.

“With the new marriage law in place, we recognize that LGBT couples may feel uncertain as to their legal rights and may need guidance, and we are excited about offering this service to the community,” said Miller.

Consultations with one of the firm’s attorneys can be made by calling 407-423-1700 or emailing info@barrymillerlaw.com. The cost for recording and documentary stamps are additional Barry Miller Law is committed to proactively safe-guarding the legal rights of the LGBT community.
