Michigan woman sues Planet Fitness over transgender complaint

A Michigan woman who had her gym membership being revoked after she complained about a transgender woman being in the female locker room is suing Planet Fitness.

Yvette Cormier had her membership pulled by the Midland County branch of the “Judgement Free” gym on March 4 after Cormier began warning other gym members that they were allowing a man to enter the ladies’ locker room.

Cormier had complained earlier to gym staff and was advised that the person in question identifies as female.

“We are here to provide a unique environment in which anyone – and we mean anyone – can be comfortable,” Planet Fitness said in a statement posted to their website. “We seek to perfect this environment where everyone feels accepted and respected.”

Cormier has filed a $25,000 lawsuit with the Midland County Circuit Court claiming she suffered embarrassment and humiliation, severe emotional distress and damage to her reputation.

Planet Fitness has not commented on the pending litigation.
