Federal judge strikes down SC same-sex marriage ban

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina gay marriage ban struck down by federal judge; marriages delayed until Nov. 20.

Federal Judge Richard Gergel is the first judge to rule in a South Carolina federal court that the state government has no right to decide who can or cannot marry.
Governor Nikki Haley and Attorney General Alan Wilson, both Republicans, are expected to file an appeal.

Earlier this week on Nov. 10, Wilson asked the judge to toss out a challenge to the same-sex marriage ban.
