Pillow Talk

“Pillow Talk” is about two friends, Aaron and Doug, on their first night of a cross country road trip.

The whole play is set in Aaron’s Grandmother’s trailer normally inhabited by just her and her vicious pet ferret Pookie. While trying to fall asleep on their shared bed the two discuss various personal annoyances, their friendship and childhood homosexual experiences.

Kurt Roth and Steve Johnson do an excellent job at capturing the audience’s attention. The crowd would laugh, gasp and snicker as one, especially near the end. The only issue with the play was the character development of Doug. He begins the play as a completely physically unavailable person, unable to even share a bed with his best friend Aaron. By the end of the play, Doug is practically transformed into a different person, now comfortable to sleep in bed with Aaron wearing less than traditional pajamas as opposed to the full clothed option he was going for at the start. The play would benefit from a larger budget and longer performance so the character development doesn’t feel so rushed. The chemistry between the Doug and Aaron feels genuine, leaving the audience wanting to see how the rest of Doug and Aaron’s trip goes.

If you’re at Gay Days and you want to take a little break from the pool parties or expo, “Pillow Talk” is a great way to spend a little part of your day.
