Sarasota AIDS walk changes course

Sarasota – For the ninth year in a row, Trinity Charities will present the Sarasota/Manatee AIDS Walk to support its HIV/AIDS programs. But this year, participants will embark on a brand new route on Saturday, Dec. 7.

No longer will the 500-plus walkers be confined to the campus of New College like in years past. This year, the two mile-walk will begin at J.D. Hamel Park and cross the iconic Ringling Bridge. Organizers hope that the change in route not only boosts participation, but exposure to the surrounding community.

J.D. Hamel Park is the same park in which Sarasota Pride is held each October.

So far, the walk has raised just over $15,600 and 231 walkers have pre-registered. Those interested in participating (or donating to a walker) may do so at TrinityCharities.org.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. the morning of Dec. 7 and the walk will kick off promptly at 8 a.m. Food, raffles, music and prizes will be available throughout pre-walk festivities.
