Orlando creates 3D mapping site for Gay Games 2018 bid

Orlando is in the running to host the 2018 Gay Games, an Olympic-style event to promote and support the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

Though the destination won’t be announced until 2014, the group promoting the destination, Orlando 2018, has teamed up with uOwn Real Estate, to provide a 3D map of the various sports complexes, parks and hospitality venues in Orlando for Gay Games’ decision makers. You can view the map here http://orlando2018.go3dexpansion.com/. You will need the Google Earth plugin, otherwise you will default to the regular 2D map.

The games, held in late summer, are expected to bring 200,000 people to Central Florida and have a $100 million economic impact. Orlando is one of five international cities vying for the games and the only non-European city being considered. The other cities are London, Paris, Amsterdam and Limerick, Ireland.

The bid to bring Gay Games X to Orlando is a partnership between Converge Orlando, Inc., the official LGBT Convention & Visitors Bureau for Central Florida, Come Our With Pride Orlando, a 501c3 nonprofit, and the Central Florida Sports Commission.

Organizers said the launch of the 3D site is an example of how important technology will be to accommodate and inform guests, athletes and volunteers and enhance their visit to Orlando.
