Orlando: It’s that Fringe time of year

Orlando: It’s that Fringe time of year

What the FRINGE?
On Monday April 15, the city’s largest arts and theatre festival, Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival, will commence with a general audience preview.

Twenty acts will offer up previews of their shows to help you decide which must-see shows you need to get tickets for, and which ones don’t appeal to your tastes. Everything from musical theatre, dance, comedy, improv, acrobatics, ukelele to singing bears! Some of the performances include: Dance For Grandma by PET Projects, Once Upon a Wonderland by Yow Dance and Miss Inner Beauty by Shelarious Sheli Productions. For more info., contact nicole@orlandofringe.org. Also, pay attention to WatermarkOnline.com, where our staff of freelancers will check out shows and let our readers know what they thought of this year’s lineup.

Making an IMPACT
Every Sunday, a team from the Central Florida Softball League handles the task of running a concession stand during the Sunday games. On Sunday, April 7, Team Impact, sponsored by Hamburger Mary’s Orlando and The Hope & Help Center of Central Florida raised over $800. All proceeds raised will go toward AIDS Walk Orlando. “$800 for the AIDS Walk is tremendous,” said team manager Norm Gentry.

Pride and No Prejudice
It was a busy week at Parliament House Orlando, who once again hosted Big Boy Pride April 4-8. The event boasts “men of size and men of color.” Hundreds of “Big Brothas” and those who love them gathered for a week of events including games and variety show. Then, on April 8, the resort hosted Florida Regional Entertainer of the Year, where former NEOY’s performed, including Electra, Nina West, Mokha Montrese, Necole LuV Dupree and DeeRanged. Tiffany T. McCray of Tampa was crowned Florida Entertainer of the Year 2013 and Orlando’s Addison Taylor was named the first alternate.

Dude Looks Like a Lady
It’s that time again! Grab the duct tape, dust off your wigs and strap down your “girls” for the 5th annual Mr. and Ms. CFSL Pageant. On April 14, Parliament House’s Footlight Theater will play host to Orlando’s gay and lesbian softball players from the Central Florida Softball League for a competition like no other. Think turnabout. Mr/Ms CFSL is an annual amateur cross-dressing fundraiser to assist teams that represent the league at the NAGAAA and ASANA World Series. Any team is welcome to participate in an evening that guarantees to be full of laughs and entertainment. Last year’s winners were Mr. CFSL: Amber Hart from Cascades MedSpa Plastics and Ms. CFSL: Eric Hans from Nick Wild Stallions.
