Monday Ripples: Die Green

Monday Ripples: Die Green

â┚¬Å”I would believe only in a God that knows how to dance.â┚¬Â â┚¬â€œ Friedrich Nietzsche

I know what you're going to say: Where have you been? You'll probably find this hard to believe, but our time apart has been just as hard on me as it has on you. I missed you! Like most men, I'm full of excuses, but this time my excuse is a happy one. I've got a new job! I'm the Marketing & Sales Manager for Orlando Ballet. I'm excited by the challenges that lay before me (the primary task being â┚¬Å”getting butts in seatsâ┚¬Â, as we say in the business, so I hope to see you at the ballet).

Here we are on Monday, which I think has become the favorite day of the week for all SSTW fans. We don’t need fireworks to get us excited about the beginning of the week! Monday is the new Friday when it comes to saving the world. The random net surfer among you may ask why, so let me explain. Below you'll find links that will direct you to different cool world-saving things, click it, get inspired, and pass it along, or maybe it will spark another idea in your head. Rippleâ┚¬Â¦get it?

Ei-Eola-Oh!
Orlando Trust Lake Eola Pieces Flyer
While we've lived so long in the shadow of Walt, people around the globe are probably associating Orlando more with sensationalized trials than theme parks right now. But as is my want, I'm here once again to remind you that Orlando is so much more than all that! You may have heard that our icon fountain in the middle of Lake Eola is getting a makeover, complete with Bellagioesque music in the park timed to water spurts. But what happens to those pieces of the old fountain? Landfill? Oh, no, no, not in my hometown, my friend. Today (July 4) you can go to Lake Eola and purchase a piece of the old fountain that has been made into a shape that is Orlandoconic â┚¬â€œ a swan, the fountain itself. The money from the sale will go to the Orlando Community & Youth Trust, Inc.

Eat, Live, and Die Green
Green burials are gaining traction in the Washington area
I thought it was kind of funny that people were talking about â┚¬Å”greenâ┚¬Â burials. I remember talking to Mom about cremation and we were both adamant about the idea of not taking up space on the planet with our rotting corpse. I've come to think of cemeteries â┚¬â€œ romantic though they may be â┚¬â€œ as a certain kind of landfill. Yes, I thought â┚¬Å”greenâ┚¬Â burials were funny until taking a look at this article; I mean being part of coral reef would never have crossed my mind.

Battery Recycling Included
Battery Solutions
We try to use rechargeable batteries, but it really seems impossible to always use them. Take your remote control, for example. Would you constantly change those out with recyclable ones? Naturally, as I'm writing the question, I wonder to myself if it would be possible and if I'm just a lazy ass. Hmmm. Anyway, we have a bunch of batteries that we have saved from the landfill, but we were having a hell of a time finding a place to recycle them. So I did a little Binging and I found this awesome company. You're welcome.

It Doesn't Grow on Trees
Nehrling Gardens
The good folks at The Henry Nehrling Society are in the middle of a fundraising campaign for the 2011-2012 financial year and they need your help to reach their goal of $200,000. Of that money, $125,000 will go directly to paying down one-third of the mortgage. Nehrling Gardens was rescued from the hands of developers and work the work of restoring it to its former glory is ongoing. For just $50 you can purchase an Honorary Deed and â┚¬Å”ownâ┚¬Â a piece of this historic gem.
