Window and neon sign smashed at gay landmark Stonewall Inn

NEW YORK (AP) | A teenager has been accused of smashing the front window and iconic neon sign at New York’s Stonewall Inn, a landmark in the fight for gay rights.

Police say the 19-year-old was upset he had been thrown out of the historic gay bar and destroyed the window with a baseball bat early Saturday, causing about $6,000 in damage. The teenager faces charges of reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal mischief.

Florida’s Congressional Delegation sends powerful note to Gov. Rick Scott about doctoring HIV stats

UpRising_RickScottWell, it may be the end of work for the week, but at least the Democrats in Florida (or Congress) are still ready to raise a stink. You might recall that Gov. Rick Scott tried to redo the math on the state’s phenomenal increase in HIV/AIDS cases recently. Yesterday, a group of congressional folks called foul on the governor’s window display, saying, effectively, that doctoring the numbers hurts the cause. Michigan judge must recognize 300-plus same-sex marriages

DETROIT (AP) – A federal judge ruled Jan. 15 that Michigan must recognize hundreds of same-sex marriages performed during a brief window last year.

U.S. District Judge Mark Goldsmith wrote that the unions are valid, but stayed the decision for 21 days pending any appeal by the state.
