Florida school district: Gay bunnies’ book needed approval

SANFORD, Fla. (AP) | A Florida school district says a teacher should have asked before reading a picture book about gay bunnies.

The Orlando Sentinel reports Seminole County Public Schools issued a report after parents complained teacher Tyler Bond read “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver Presents a Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo.” The title is a gay-themed spoof by HBO host John Oliver of a book by the wife and daughter of Vice President Mike Pence.

Hashtag stirs debate over role of Christian schools in US

To critics, many of these Christian schools venture too often into indoctrination, with teachings that can misrepresent science and history and potentially breed intolerance toward people with different outlooks.

With World AIDS Day approaching, the White House recognized the occasion on Nov. 29 with an event hosted by Vice President Mike Pence, who during his remarks praised HIV/AIDS programs Trump sought to cut during his administration.

Crediting President Trump with bringing a “renewed energy and focus” against HIV/AIDS, Pence made faith-based organizations’ work a cornerstone of his remarks, saying those efforts have made the United States “closer today than ever before to ending the AIDS crisis in our time.”

DOD appears to contradict White House on process for trans military ban

A Defense Department spokesperson appeared Thursday to contradict the White House on the process for drafting the transgender military policy, asserting it was “a coordinated effort” with the White House and Justice Department as opposed to Defense Secretary James Mattis and his working group alone within the Pentagon.

Dana White, a Pentagon spokesperson, made the comments Thursday during a Pentagon news briefing in response to a question on timing for the release of the policy late Friday night and whether Mattis was “proud” of his recommendation against transgender military service.

‘Make America Gay Again’ sign greets Pence in Colorado

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — Neighbors of the home where Vice President Mike Pence has been staying in Colorado this week have a message.

They’ve placed a rainbow-colored banner on a stone pillar at the end of the driveways to both homes near the posh ski resort of Aspen. The banner reads “Make America Gay Again” — a play on President Donald Trump’s campaign slogan “Make America Great Again.”
