Tymisha Harris brings legendary entertainer Josephine Baker to the Central Florida stage

Tymisha Harris had a tour de force year in 2018 with her show, “JOSEPHINE, a burlesque cabaret dream play.” Harris—who co-created the one-woman show with director-producer Michael Marinaccio and playwright-musical director Tod Kimbro—debuted “JOSEPHINE” in 2016 where it won “Outstanding Solo Performance” and “Best Show” at the San Diego Fringe Festival.

The show was a hit playing here in Orlando and across North America, but Harris and crew took “JOSEPHINE” to another level with a four-week Off-Broadway run in New York last year.

So many people do not know the struggles that she has faced and the hurdles she has been made to jump through to be where she is today. ORLANDO | The LGBT+ Center of Central Florida celebrated its 40th anniversary with a concert at The Plaza Live on Nov. 3.

The Studio 54-themed event was hosted by Jorge Estevez and featured showstopping musical and dance numbers by the Orlando Gay Chorus, a sensual burlesque dance from VarieTEASE’s Blue Star, Tymisha Harris and the Ladyboys’ Gadiel Vazquez, hysterical drag by Gidget Galore and a once-in-a-lifetime special performance from one of the queens of disco, Martha Wash.

Central Florida Overheard: Tymisha slays as ‘Josephine!’

Local entertainer, Tymisha Harris, often seen performing alongside Blue for VarieTEASE and various burlesque performances at The Venue, recently slayed Mama Ru (RuPaul to those who don’t know).

Josephine! began as a pet project for Orlando Fringe’s Michael Marinaccio and Harris in late 2015. They were later joined by the musical genius Tod Kimbro who helped to refine what they started. Josephine! is a musical telling of the life of bisexual performer Josephine Baker, portrayed in the show by Harris.
