Florida judge deliberating transgender teen bathroom lawsuit

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A federal lawsuit filed by a transgender teen against the St. Johns County school district over the right to use the boys bathroom is being deliberated by a judge.

The Times-Union reports that in his freshman year, Drew came out as a transgender boy. He changed his clothes and his hair, he underwent surgery and began hormone treatment, and for about six weeks, he used the boys bathroom. But the district told him he would have to start using a gender-neutral bathroom or the girls room.

Ruling opens possibility trans teen will get hormone therapy

CINCINNATI (AP) — A transgender Ohio teen’s grandparents have been granted custody and will be allowed to decide whether the 17-year-old can pursue hormone therapy at a hospital after he’s evaluated by a psychologist not affiliated with the hospital, a judge in Cincinnati ruled Friday.

Judge Sylvia Hendon’s ruling appears to have ended a legal battle that pitted the teen and his maternal grandparents against his parents, who denied he was transgender and sought Christian-based therapy for him. The teen, with his grandparents’ support, wants treatment at the transgender program run by Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

Missouri Supreme Court to hear two cases on LGBT rights

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Missouri Supreme Court has agreed to hear two cases on LGBT rights.

One case transferred Tuesday involves a transgender teen who wasn’t allowed to use the boy’s locker rooms and restrooms in his Blue Springs school. An appellate court upheld the dismissal of his case.

Ohio group adopts road in memory of transgender teen

CINCINNATI (AP) — The Ohio Department of Transportation has erected signs indicating that a group has adopted a stretch of highway in southwestern Ohio in memory of a transgender teenager who killed herself there nearly a year ago.

The State Highway Patrol says say 17-year-old Leelah Alcorn left a handwritten note on her bed – “I’ve had enough” – and did an online search about runaway assistance and a Tumblr search for the word suicide before walking into the path of a tractor-trailer on Interstate 71 in suburban Cincinnati in late December.
