Hillsborough County Commissioner kicks off campaign to become Clerk of Court

Hillsborough County Commissioner Kevin Beckner officially announced his campaign for Hillsborough County Clerk of Court with a campaign fundraiser at Ulele Restaurant in Tampa April 29.

Beckner, who is wrapping up his second term as commissioner, cannot seek re-election for his current position because of term limits.

TBGLCC Diamond Awards 2015

On Jan. 17, the Tampa Bay Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce held its first-ever Diamond Awards Dinner to honor businesses, individuals and organizations that have positively impacted the LGBT business community. The celebration was hosted by the Holiday Inn on Ulmerton Road in Clearwater and brought out leaders from throughout Tampa Bay. Winners, who were chosen by the membership of the chamber by private ballot, were announced on stage and each was invited to speak briefly to the audience.

Winners of the 2014 Diamond Awards were: Watermark Media as Business of the Year, Watermark Editor-in-Chief Steve Blanchard as Business Person of the Year, St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman as Community Champion of the Year and The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay as the Non-Profit Business of the Year.

Nearly 50 honor the memory of Leelah Alcorn in St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg – Gibbs High School teens Gaylen Granby and Britney Waggott never knew Leelah Alcorn. But the suicide of the Ohio transgender teenager in December motivated the students to celebrate her life and try to help change the way transgender people are viewed by society.

They organized a candlelight vigil at Vinoy Park along St. Petersburg’s waterfront on Jan. 4 and nearly 50 people attended.

DJ Scott Roberts provided the hip hop beats for the kickoff to Orlando Black Pride June 3. It was held at Parliament House during their regular Hip Hop Tuesday.

P-House looked fabulous and the crowd was high-energy, friendly and ready to party. Watermark spent most of our time with a gang of hot ladies from Tampa who were ready to go crazy. Everyone was already super excited for the Gay Days weekend ahead.

About 2,500 people gathered at Wickham Pavilian June 25 for the 7th Annual Space Coast Pride.

In addition to sunny blue skies, attendees enjoyed live entertainment, a climbing wall and a kids’ activity area.
