GLAAD report shows LGBTQ inclusion on television at record high

The mood was light and spirits were high at the offices of United Talent Agency in Beverly Hills Nov. 7, as GLAAD held the presentation of its “Where We Are On TV” report for 2019-2020

The report was authored by GLAAD Director of Entertainment Research and Analysis Megan Townsend, who told the gathered crowd of journalists and industry professionals that the percentage of regular LGBTQ characters on broadcast television reached an all-time high in 2019 – exceeding last year’s challenge by the organization to reach 10 percent inclusion on primetime scripted series by 2020.

‘One Day at a Time’ might be revived by CBS All Access

“One Day at a Time” could be revived on a different streaming platform but Netflix could still prevent that from happening.

According to Vulture, the streaming platform CBS All Access has made an official bid to Sony to pick up the show where it left off for a fourth season. The bid is a bold move considering Netflix’s deal with Sony allows Netflix to veto the show moving to another streaming platform for two years after its cancellation.

Ruby Rose’s ‘Batwoman’ series gets pilot, to be helmed by ‘Game of Thrones’ director

After making a big splash in The CW’s DC-crossover event “Elseworlds” last month, out superhero Batwoman could be getting her own series.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the network has ordered a pilot for “Batwoman,” starring Ruby Rose. Rose portrayed the title superhero in last month’s “Elseworlds.” The pilot will be directed by Emmy Award-winning director David Nutter. Nutter is best known for directing several episodes of the hit HBO series “Game of Thrones,” including the infamous Red Wedding episode.

Ruby Rose cast as lesbian superhero Batwoman

“Orange is the New Black” star Ruby Rose will play the lesbian superhero Batwoman in the upcoming Arrowverse crossover event on The CW network this fall.

Rose — who identifies as gender fluid — will make her debut as the DC Comics heroine guest starring on the series “Arrow,” “The Flash” and “Supergirl” in December. The CW is also working on developing a standalone series for the character, written by “The Vampire Diaries” Caroline Dries and executive produced by Dries, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns.

GLAAD TV report shows LGBT characters more likely to be white, gay males

LGBT characters on TV are becoming closer to the norm but odds are they are white, according to the latest study released from GLAAD.

GLAAD’s “Where We Are on TV” diversity report shows that TV has made advances in LGBT inclusion with more LGBT characters appearing on shows than ever before.
