ORLANDO | The Stonewall National Museum and Archives has arrived at The LGBT+ Center in Orlando with its traveling exhibition.

2019 Orlando Fringe Review: ‘The Complete History of Drag in a Few Mo-mo’

LGBTQ history in the world isn’t told in mainstream media very often. There isn’t, at least widespread, a push in textbooks and history class to educate on the accomplishments of LGBTQ people. Many of the stories and events that shaped the community live on by being passed from one generation to another in the form of stories, jokes and backstage quips by our drag queens. David LeBarron captures this perfectly in his show “The Complete History of Drag in a Few Mo-mo.”

LeBarron jumps from narrator at the beginning of the show to Auntie, an experienced drag queen who’s time on this earth is limited.  In their dressing room of her local gay bar, Auntie guides the new girl — a neophyte drag queen — through queer history.

I may not be aware of all that George Wallace has done to make him a hero of 2018 specifically, but I do know that George has been my personal hero for many years.

Firstly, as a healthcare advocate for special needs individuals. Secondly, as a person who has helped countless individuals in need—on a personal level, well beyond the scope of any employment mandate, and he has done so often and without fanfare or public recognition. Thirdly, as one of the true visionaries and hardest working people who dedicated every fiber of his being to help make The Orlando Fringe Festival the resounding success it is today.

The Center Orlando, Two Spirits to hold toy drive for LGBTQ families

ORLANDO | The LGBT+ Center of Central Florida and Two Spirit Health Services are holding a holiday toy drive to benefit LGBTQ families and foster kids in the Central Florida area.

Toy collection will begin Dec. 3 and go through Dec. 21. They will start picking toys up on Dec. 22 to take to the kids. Drop off locations will be at Southern Craft, located at 2405 E. South St.; The Hammered Lamb, located at 1235 N. Orange Ave.; and The LGBT+ Center Orlando, located at 946 N. Mills Ave.

The LGBT+ Center of Central Florida celebrates 40 years with a Studio 54-inspired party

The Center Orlando to bring LGBTQ children’s books to the community

ORLANDO | The LGBT+ Center Orlando is expanding again, and this expansion is bringing in something for the kids.

George Wallace, The Center’s executive director, says the new expansion will include a children’s library complete with LGBTQ children’s books and youth novels. A children’s library will be added into the new Center coming to Kissimmee as well.

Central Florida Overheard: The Center’s summer reads

A new book club dedicated to exploring the LGBTQ experience is coming to The Center Orlando in June.

“Queer Quills: Summer Reading Club” will have its first meeting at The Center on June 28 with the book “Some Hell.” The club will also delve into the novels “Here Comes the Sun” and “Life Beyond My Body: A Transgender Journey to Manhood in China” over the course of the season.
