Hundreds of Utah’s LGBTQ youth to gather at statewide summit

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – Hundreds of Utah LGBTQ students are scheduled to meet up for a statewide summit in Orem next month to find solidarity and discuss issues like bullying and educational and career advancement.

The event, called Ignite, aims to bring together LGBTQ teens from Utah’s rural and urban areas and those involved in gay-straight alliance organizations.

Family resources gives LGBT teens a safe place to be

Since 2013, Family Resources, Inc. has provided a safe haven for LGBT runaway and homeless youth through the “SafePlace2BToo: LGBT” transitional living program.

“SafePlace2BToo: LGBT” houses six beds in Pinellas Park, but teens from all counties are welcome. According to Dr. Lisa Davis, chief executive officer of Family Resources, the ultimate goal is to help LGBT youth learn the necessary skills to become self-sufficient in early adulthood.

Prism program to offer shelter, programs for LGBT homeless teens in St. Pete

St. Petersburg – Family Resources, Florida’s crisis counseling agency and shelter for runaway and homeless teens, is about to make history.

We’ve talked to our foster system, and we know that there have been kids who were almost adopted, but the thing that kept them from being adopted was that they came out as gay, said program director Nicole Leslie. That’s so heartbreaking that it’s something that would determine whether or not a kid has a home.
