France looks at assisted reproduction for lesbian couples

PARIS (AP) | The French government is drafting legislation to give single women and lesbian couples access to assisted reproduction in France instead of having to seek it abroad.

French law currently restricts the technology to infertile heterosexual couples.

Gays on strike in Israel over exclusion from surrogacy law

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP)| Hundreds of Israeli LGBT advocates and their supporters are on strike, protesting the exclusion of gay men from a recently passed surrogacy law.

Protesters marched in Tel Aviv and other Israeli cities on July 22, waving rainbow flags and briefly blocking a major highway.

Hawaii LGBTQ couples seek equal access to fertility treatment

HONOLULU (AP) – Sean Smith and his husband paid more than $20,000 for a fertility procedure when they decided to have a child using a surrogate mother. They did not know at the time that if they were a heterosexual couple, they might have saved that money.

Now, Smith and other members of Hawaii’s LGBTQ community are lobbying for equal access to the financial help married, heterosexual couples enjoy under state law.
