Crowds pack 7 Sins
The LGBT community welcomed a new night spot to Largo in a very big way on Friday, July 26. 7 Sins Night club brought a huge LGBT Friday Night Dance Party to a 10,000 square-foot space within Los 2 Pebes Restaurant and Bar. A VIP area, a boom boom room and an outside Tiki bar stayed busy throughout the night. One attendee told Watermark that the club atmosphere was reminiscent of clubs found in New York. The night of entertainment presented two shows with host Madisyn Michaels and featured Nae Nae Dominatrix, Star Montrese Love and Natasha Possh. A rotating cast will bring the party back every Friday night and each week, popular Billboard magazine reporting DJ Greg Anderson (who is also a WAVE Award winner) will be in the DJ booth. You can keep up to date on 7 Sins by following it on Facebook at Facebook.com/7SinsNightClub.

Prom-oting memories
It was a busy weekend for Largo. Quench Nightclub held its very first “Prom You Wish You Had” on July 27, and the bar was packed with tuxedo-clad men and women and several prom dresses. There was even a King and Queen, King and King and Queen and Queen ceremony, all emceed by the hilarious Alexis Mateo and Madisyn Michaels. Prizes were awarded for “best prom attire” and several area businesses donated to the cause, including Georgie’s Alibi, Simply Delicious NY Deli, Lucky Star Lounge, The Garage, Nardo’s Naturals and Dunedin Lanes. Quench also provided two bar tabs as prizes. Quench was decorated with white balloons and celebrity cardboard cutouts and bartenders were looking hot in their tuxedo Speedos.

Frerichs’ last call
Countless bar patrons in St. Petersburg have chatted up, drooled over and conversed with Jake Frerichs, the dark haired, handsome bartender at The Garage on Central over the last few years. But Frerichs is hanging up his bar towel for a new career with Times Square Properties, a real estate company in downtown St. Petersburg, and he poured his last drink as a full time bartender on April 12.

The handsome, straight ally worked the bars at The Flamingo Resort and at Beak’s Old Florida restaurant before landing at The Garage. He has also been an active participant in St. Pete Pride – riding on or marching as part of various floats – and a fundraising walker in AIDS Walk Tampa Bay. His new position as property manager will put Frerichs in charge of maintenance and leasing at the downtown property. But that doesn’t mean he’ll never tend bar again. Frerichs said he will return to The Garage during large events, such as St. Pete Pride or themed nights.

Tampa teams dominate 19th Annual Gasparilla Softball Tournament

Softball teams from Tampa dominated the 19th Annual Gasparilla Softball Tournament the weekend of Feb. 15-17, taking home first place trophies in both divisions.

In all, 67 teams competed in the annual tournament on the fields of the Greco Softball Complex in Tampa and the Woodlawn complex in St. Petersburg. The cooler, windy temperatures made morning games more challenging than in years past, but rain held off through the weekend as a cold front settled into the area.

In the C-Division, the Tampa Beefs fended off the New Orleans Master Batters to take home the first place trophy, which meant the Master Batters took the second place title back to Louisiana. The Bill’s Blue Crush from Fort Lauderdale finished third in the division.

The newly formed Tampa Ducks edged out fellow Tampa Bay team the Panthers to secure a first place finish in the D-Division, which had 35 teams competing this year. The Panthers’ second place trophy stayed in Tampa while the third place prize fell to the Madison Big Cheese.

There were no other divisions in this year’s Gasparilla Softball Classic. The regular season for the Suncoast Softball League, which puts on the Gasparilla tournament, begins March 3. For more information, visit SuncoastSoftball.org.
