High Fidelity: The summer of single

By : Miguel Fuller

The summer of single is officially over. Well, according to the calendar of the Gods we technically still have a while before summer is officially over. But after Labor Day weekend, our minds shift to pumpkin spice lattes and figuring out how much weight we can lose to get into a slutty Halloween costume. That’s directly followed by figuring out how much weight is socially acceptable to gain during the Thanksgiving season. I digress.

The summer of single is officially over. For most of 2017 I have written in Watermark about my breakup, my foils and fumbles of dating and my use of gay dating apps. You know, those apps that we single people delete and then re-download every other week. I do it as well; you are not alone.

THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF WANZIE: What I did over the summer

School is back in session so as routine dictates it’s time to report – What I did over the summer:

I’m not a student, so the only thing that made me aware school was out in June was my inability to skip haphazardly though a theme park with carefree abandon – as I have been known to do from time to time. Instead I was reduced to a vigilant crawl carefully navigating and calculating every step so as not collide with another god damned stroller. Never-the-less, I thoroughly enjoyed my “Flight of Passage” on the back of a banshee in the new land of Pandora at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. I must admit all my pent up resentment over the fact the ride was nothing more than a cross utilization of the already existing “Soarin’” technology was quickly allayed about five seconds into this spectacular experience. It was actually worth the 90-minute wait.

Build up your lower back muscles and glutes if you want a six-pack for summer

There seems to be a common misconception about what “core strength” really is. People throw the term around and regularly schedule “ab day” into their routine. They act as if doing a bunch of situps will give them the abs they’ve been chasing and the physical balance needed to be healthy. The reality is, core strength entails so much more.

As a society, we love the idea of six-pack abs. But most people don’t realize your lower back and glutes are as much a part of your core as your abs are. And you need balance. You can’t have incredibly strong abs with a weak lower back and glutes or your abs will overpower them daily, pulling your hips out of alignment and leaving you with lower back pain.

You know the drill. It’s incredibly humid and everything is sticking to your hair. Your sweat rings are now a sign of empowerment and not a reason for embarrassment. You’ve got this. This is Florida, the place you go to in order to remove your shirt anyway, but for reasons of distraction – even enlightenment, despite the sun – it’s also a chance to let your eyes wander across pages. To that end, we present a not-at-all comprehensive review of lit-bits that we’ve been handling; some with local ties, some not. Now put on your tanning butter and get to riding the consonants into the vowels. Reading is learning, and learning is fun. Have a great summer!

I have never been one to read self-help books. In my 26 years of living, I’ve bought two; one was for school and the other was a flat surface I used to construct marijuana cigarettes on. Nothing against these types of books, of course. I just have yet to find How-To: Life for the Awkward Gal Who Overanalyzes Everything. Until I do, I’ll leave what I can here and you’re welcome to use the help at your leisure. If the aforementioned book never makes it onto the shelves of Barnes and Noble, just remember I said it first. These are the life lessons I made-up out of things that have happened to me. Enjoy.

It was the summer of 2003: I was 13 years old, my mosquito bites were becoming bigger mosquito bites (I’m referring to my tits, though there were many mosquitoes that summer), and the world was in the palm of my pubescent hand. It was my second summer at the Catholic sleep-away camp I would call home for many summers after. This particular summer was important to the girls of Cabin 9. You see, we were the second oldest girls in the entire camp: We stayed-up later, danced longer, and at the end of the session, we got to go on the mystical off-property camping trip to the DLB (Dry Lake Bed). What was so important about this trip was not the campfire; it was not the ghost stories; it wasn’t even the fucking s’mores. No, this was bigger than that. The oldest boy cabin had a tradition of scaring the living shit out of any girls camping in the DLB. But not that night, no sir. The Cabin 9 girls were going to retaliate. That night we were going to rewrite history, as well as learn how to shave our pubes from the way-too-advanced-for-her-age girl, Lauren.

New York (AP) – Former “Will & Grace” star Sean Hayes is coming back to Broadway as a guy with plenty of will and grace.

Hayes will play God in a stage adaptation of the humor book “The Last Testament: A Memoir by God” on Broadway. The play, called “An Act of God,” is adapted by its author, David Javerbaum, and made its Broadway debut last summer.
