Boston DA asks high court to address ‘straight pride’ parade spat

BOSTON (AP) | Boston’s district attorney has asked Massachusetts’ highest court to intervene in a dispute with a lower court judge over the arrest of counterprotesters during a “straight pride” parade in Boston over Labor Day weekend.

Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins filed an emergency petition Sept. 4 asking the state’s Supreme Judicial Court to compel the lower court to accept her request not to prosecute at least one counterprotester charged with disorderly conduct following Saturday’s parade , which was meant to be a counterpoint to gay pride parades and drew a few hundred participants but hundreds more counterprotesters.

‘Straight pride’ parade draws marchers, protesters

BOSTON (AP) | A “straight pride” parade and counter-demonstration went off in Boston Aug. 31 without any major conflicts reported between the two groups.

An organization calling itself Super Happy Fun America announced the parade as Boston celebrated LGBTQ Pride Month earlier this summer, saying it believes straight people are an oppressed majority.

Modesto city officials denied an application Aug. 9 by the National Straight Pride Coalition for an Aug. 24 event at Graceada Park.

It was the late 1980s and I was hanging around the house with my brother and our friends. My brother and I are only 11 months apart so we shared everything—clothes, friends, a bedroom—I basically had nothing of my own until I was into my 20s.

We were all in the family room watching TV. The movie “Teen Wolf” was on. For those unfamiliar,“Teen Wolf” is a 1985 film where heartthrob Michael J. Fox turns into a werewolf and plays basketball really well. The movie is very 80s, right down to the nonchalant use of the word “fag.”
