Governor McCrory of North Carolina admits parts of HB2 are “poorly thought out”

Raleigh, N.C. (AP) – North Carolina’s governor called for more dialogue on the issue of transgender people and bathroom use while saying he stands by provisions of a bill regarding access to facilities.

Gov. Pat McCrory appeared on NBC’s “Meet the Press” to talk about the bill, which he signed into law last month. He has since issued an executive order expanding protections for many state workers based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

North Carolina governor issues executive order on LGBT protections

After weeks of boycotts and backlash, the governor of North Carolina has issued an executive order “clarifying” aspects of controversial HB2, which requires transgender people to use restrooms that align with their birth gender, rather than the current gender with which they identify, and prohibits municipalities from establishing protections for their LGBT citizens.

PA county defends granting same sex marriage licenses

Norristown, Pa. (AP) – Lawyers asked a state court to throw out a lawsuit that seeks to stop a defiant county official from issuing marriage licenses to gay couples, who cannot legally wed in Pennsylvania.

County attorneys for Montgomery County clerk D. Bruce Hanes said he has a sworn duty to uphold the Pennsylvania and U.S. constitutions – and Pennsylvania’s law banning same-sex marriage violates both, they argued.
