Greg Berlanti tapped to direct Rock Hudson biopic

Greg Berlanti has signed on to direct a film biopic about actor Rock Hudson.

Deadline reports the story will be based on the memoir “All That Heaven Allows: A Biography of Rock Hudson” by Mark Griffin. It tells the story of Hudson’s struggles as a closeted actor and Hollywood heartthrob of romantic comedies for Universal during the ’50s and ’60s. He died from AIDS-related complications in 1985 at the age of 59.

Luckily, during those dog days of summer when it’s too hot to go outside you can stay inside and enjoy some of the new releases on DVD/Blu-ray or a variety of channels for streaming or download. Here’s a small sampling to get you started for movies on DVD summer 2018.

A fitting movie for the dog days of summer is the quirky but entrancing “Isle of Dogs” by visionary director Wes Anderson, who returned to the intimate world of stop-action animation for his latest movie. After an outbreak of canine flu, the mayor of Megasaki, Japan, exiles all dogs to a barren island. His nephew Atari rescues the family dog and the brave duo lead a rebellion against the mayor and his corrupt cronies.

The first person I ever came out to was a complete stranger. It was surprisingly easy. The journey to get to that moment was not easy, nor the mountains I would have to climb after; but coming out to a stranger wasn’t difficult. It was freeing and desperate.

It was the early 1990s and he was a mentor with the Delta Youth Alliance, now the Orlando Youth Alliance. At the time, it was the only resource for gay youth to meet and support each other and it remains a vital component of the community today. My involvement with the group gave me the courage to come out to my high school best friend. That was difficult because it was someone close to me. It was a bigger gamble as there was more riding on her reaction than that of the stranger.

Pollari, who portrays Simon’s potential love interest Lyle in the film, revealed to the Advocate that he had a similar coming out experience as Simon. The actor explains that he came out to his family and friends when he was 18.
