Indianapolis (AP) – Indiana may have lost as much as $60 million in hotel profits, tax revenue and other economic benefits when a dozen groups decided against hosting conventions in Indianapolis last year due at least in part to the controversy surrounding the state’s religious objections law.

A document prepared by the tourism group Visit Indy shows that the 12 out-of-state groups were surveyed and all said that the state’s controversial law played a role in their decision to hold their events elsewhere. The document was obtained by The Associated Press ahead of its formal release Jan. 26.

Following a long, long negotiation, Parliament House solidifies its future by finalizing a deal for a $3.9 million refinancing loan. The loan was announced before Halloween, finalized the first week of November and frees the resort to remain an Orlando LGBT icon.

Orlando’s mayor and Orlando’s first openly gay commissioner will both remain in office another term. Buddy Dyer and Patty Sheehan both win their re-election campaigns in November, emerging victorious from races that both involved their fair share of mud-slinging.

Taking the poverty plunge: Politicians and political hopefuls promise to live on minimum wage

This morning, the Fight for 15 campaign (along with Organize Now and the SEIU) staged a press conference at Sedano’s wayyyyy out east on Curry Ford Road. If it seems like a pointless effort — a living wage ordinance was just tabled in Osceola County last week — it certainly didn’t feel that way outside the grocery store.

Former Taco Bell employee Andrew Skurow claimed that he could have gone blind from the oil that would fly up into his eyes while preparing the fastest of foods, and his employers didn’t give a damn. Most argued that increasing wages would feed more money into our dire Central Florida economy, which would, in effect, cost businesses no money. As witnessed at the recent Osceola hearing, employers aren’t buying it. As witnessed across the country where these living wage ordinances have passed, though, employers are wrong.
