OYA and Parliament House’s Easter tradition continues with Babes in Bonnets

ORLANDO | The Parliament House will once again host the Easter holiday auction Babes in Bonnets, which fund raises for the Orlando Youth Alliance (OYA).

Each fundraiser over the past several years has continued to surpass the one before it, with last year’s auction bringing in a record $32,171. The fundraiser itself has been around for 21 years and was started by the legendary drag queen Carmella Marcella Garcia.

Savoy Orlando’s Starlite Room gets into the theater game

Savoy has been the LGBTQ bar with a small town feel for more than a decade. In fact, it celebrates 13 years as Orlando’s small town gay bar this month.

In the last few years Savoy has undergone renovations and upgrades to its interior, and while the main bar has maintained its success with cool drinks and hot dancers, the other half has struggled to find its identity. Enter Orlando’s theater god Michael Wanzie.

The shadow cast that performs regularly at the Universal Orlando City Walk movie theater will have a special Gay Days performance scheduled for June 4 at Gay Days Orlando! The performance promises to be a completely interactive and a fully immersive experienced. The Rich Weirdoes say that you WILL sing, you WILL dance and let your freak flag fly! Overheard in Orlando: Raise your glass Ivanhoe

Liquor Store at Ivanhoe, a go?
The owners of Savoy Orlando have their fingers crossed as they wait for two final inspections to pass so they can to open the Ivanhoe Wine and Spirits. The new venture will be a fully stocked liquor store in the heart of the Ivanhoe district that promises competitive pricing on a very good selection of beers, wine and liquor. If all goes as planned a grand opening will be set for some time mid-July.

The Peacock Lounge opened as one of the first ambiguous unofficial gay bars in town followed by Lava, Sip, the Hammered Lamb and now St. Matthews Pub. Never really claiming to be an LGBT establishment, the lounge originally had a primarily large Gay following with its original drink menu consisting of trendy martinis and lots of great art on the walls, It certainly brought a different vibe to the Orlando nightlife. Now, after 14 years of hard work, David Rich sold his share of the bar to his business partner Carmen. The Peacock Lounge still offers great drinks, fabulous art but certainly a more diversified crowd that in its early years. No feathers were ruffled in the transition and we wish David all the best in his future endeavors.
