Anti-LGBTI groups participate in State Dept. religious freedom conference

A number of anti-LGBTI organizations participated in a three-day religious freedom conference the State Department held this week in D.C.
The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom on Thursday tweeted a picture of Family Research Council President Tony Perkins “welcoming attendees” of a workshop that focused on U.S. government grants.

A conference schedule the Washington Blade obtained indicates the workshop took place at the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom’s offices in Northwest D.C. The picture on Twitter shows Perkins — who is a member of the commission — speaking at a podium in front of a screen with the State Department’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor and its Office of Global Programs’ names projected onto it.

Kansas governor signs ‘religious freedom’ anti-LGBTQ adoption law

Kansas Gov. Jeff Colyer has signed anti-LGBTQ adoption legislation making his state the latest to enact a “religious freedom” law enabling taxpayer-funded agencies to deny placement into LGBTQ homes.

Colyer signed the legislation, Senate Bill 284, into law on Friday, according to a local media report. The Washington Blade has placed a call in with Colyer’s office seeking confirmation that he signed the bill.

Kansas GOP votes to oppose validating transgender identity

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — The Kansas Republican Party has approved a resolution that opposes “all efforts to validate transgender identity,” including opposing any medical treatments to alter a person’s body to conform with his or her perceived gender identity.

The resolution, approved Saturday by the party’s state committed during its annual meeting in Wichita, said the GOP affirms “God’s design for gender as determined by biological sex and not by self-perception,” The Wichita Eagle reported . The resolution was approved on a voice vote by the committee, which includes about 180 people.

Pence breaks tie to confirm anti-LGBT Brownback nomination
