At the age of 14, Ed Gonzalez asked for a work permit to start working at a Country Club in South Florida. Many years later Ed has run, owned and operated two of Tampa Bay’s most iconic establishments: Georgie’s Alibi and Enigma St. Pete.

Through role models like his father and mother and his strong work ethic and attention to detail, he has made sanctuaries for all of us to feel comfortable and call home. I’ve had the privilege of working for this amazing man for upwards of 13 years and everything I’ve learned about the hospitality industry I owe to Ed. When you work for him you become family to him. Any employee past or present will tell you that if you ever need anything he is always there to help.

In move befitting royalty, sixteen queens and Enigma raise $8000 for one of their own

ST. PETERSBURG | Following a tragic motorcycle accident that cost Enigma bartender Ryan Stroehlein his life on July 11, the St. Petersburg LGBTQ community came together to honor his memory and raise funds for his surviving passenger.

On July 27, the Enigma family hosted its “Celebration of Life for Ryan Stroehlein,” which included a video tribute of the late bartender, a breathtaking floral arrangement in his honor and most dearly, words of remembrance, love and support from and for Stroehlein’s friends and family.

ST. PETERSBURG | When news broke that Ryan Stroehlein had tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident July 11, shockwaves were felt throughout St. Petersburg’s LGBTQ community.

Some knew him well, and others just as a community ally with an infectious smile and uplifting demeanor; a young man standing behind the bar at local hotspot Enigma. But all agreed that he would be missed.

Community mourns loss of Enigma St. Pete bartender in tragic motorcycle accident

Enigma bartender Ryan Stroehlein was killed, and passenger Jordan Marcum was seriously injured, in a motorcycle accident in Seminole at Park Boulevard and 128th Street North July 11, according to Bay News 9.

Stroehlein was riding a Honda CBP sports bike with Marcum when they were struck by a 2005 Nissan Quest causing both occupants of the motorcycle to be ejected. Stroehlein died at the scene of the crash. Marcum was rushed to Bayfront Medical Center.
