Rock Hard Fitness to host charity boot camp for The Barber Fund

ORLANDO | Rock Hard Fitness, a personal training and fitness facility in Orlando, holds charity boot camp sessions throughout the year to help raise funds for organizations such as Equality Florida and Zebra Coalition. The LGBTQ-friendly fitness center announced it will host the next one on Dec. 9 to help raise money for the Orlando-based charity The Barber Fund.

The Barber Fund, named for the late John “Tweeka” Barber who passed away in 2011 after fighting a rare form of cancer known as Sinonasal Carcinoma, was established in 2014 as a way to help those living with cancer in any way that they needed help.

CENTRAL FLORIDA’S FAVORITE FITNESS CENTER

Let’s be honest, most people hate working out. Sure there are those friends of ours who love to feel the burn and can’t wait to tell you that it’s leg day, but for the average person gym time is the most dreaded time of the day.

Within the LGBTQ community, that dread may have as much to do with the environment as it does with actually having to sweat and lift heavy objects. The folks at Rock Hard Fitness know this.

It’s good to be back. Last issue Jeremy Williams took over this space in Central Florida and Ryan Willams-Jent wrote the column for Tampa Bay. They will continue their columns every other issue, and I will continue mine in the alternating weeks.

I’ve made no secret of the fact that I have been on a journey to live a healthier and better life—while I still have a few good years ahead of me. There is the physical: regular personal training sessions with Max Dunley at Rock Hard Fitness, eating well, LASIK and braces. There is also the mental, or my version of spirituality. With the help of a twelve step program, I spend a lot of time looking at my past to understand the responsibility I have in the choices I’ve made in the hopes that I will make better decisions in the future.

Rock Hard Fitness worked out bodies and hearts raising funds for the Zebra Coalition

With Gay Days, Pride month and summer weather all just around the corner; Rock Hard Fitness had more than 30 attendees sweating for their beach bods all while helping out a good cause May 21.

Rock Hard Fitness’ “Sweat For a Cause” boot camp event pushed, pulled and squatted  the group to firmer abs and bigger hearts as they raised over $1,000 for the Zebra Coalition.
