Yale sues Connecticut over gender-neutral restrooms

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) – Yale University is suing Connecticut over its plan to turn single-user restrooms into gender-neutral bathrooms at its law school.

The New Haven Register reports the state building inspector’s office previously denied the school’s request for an exemption from the state building code requiring that a certain number of bathrooms in every building be assigned by gender.

Most trans people avoid public restrooms for fear of harassment, survey says

NEW YORK (AP) — The largest-ever survey of transgender Americans paints a grim picture of pervasive discrimination and harassment, to the point that many of them attempt suicide at some point.

Released by the National Center for Transgender Equality Dec. 8, the survey assesses input received in 2015 from 27,715 respondents from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and three U.S. territories. The largest previous transgender survey, conducted by the center and a partner organization in 2008-09, had 6,450 responses.

Investors join call for North Carolina to repeal LGBT bill

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – About 60 investors representing $2.1 trillion in managed assets are joining the NCAA, entertainers and more than 200 businesses in calling for North Carolina to repeal its law limiting LGBT protections against discrimination.

Trillium Asset Management CEO Matt Patsky said at a news conference Sept. 26 that North Carolina appears headed for a “state-government-inflicted recession” while the economy of the rest of the country improves.

North Carolina governor drops lawsuit to streamline legal cases on LGBT law

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – North Carolina’s governor is dropping a lawsuit defending a law limiting LGBT protections as he pursues similar arguments in a separate case.

Gov. Pat McCrory’s lawyers filed notice Sept. 16 that they’re voluntarily dismissing the lawsuit filed in May in a Raleigh federal court.
